We are using Mindfulness, Meditation and Relaxation as a 'mental skill' to tune into ourselves, turn off the auto-pilot and bring a degree of control to our thoughts so they do not control us. Therefore, we are advocating the practise of mindfulness and meditation as a complimentary tool for living a fulfilling life.
Naturally, we are aware that the spiritual elements of mindfulness and meditation are life long pursuits into the nature of our existence. So unless you are already a Buddhist Monk or a Minister attached to another path of spiritual unfoldment, it is wise not to perceive the completion of the course as a path to spiritual teaching. The cause is a path to physical, mental and emotional transformation.
As an instructor of Mindfulness and Meditation you are sharing that 'thoughts are not facts' and through reflection and awareness we can perceive our thoughts, emotions, judgments, beliefs, perceptions, and opinions differently under the 'light' of mindfulness and through the practise of meditation. Often the simplest level of teaching can appear quite superficial, when we are not clear about what we are teaching.
It is important all students understand the objectives of their classes in terms of stress or anxiety relief or calm and relaxation promotion. It is also important to recognise those who come to your classes are making up the components of the 'teaching' and 'learning' situation. As the instructor, remain open to the concept 'we often teach that which we need to learn' and therefore we are always a student.'
